There are a number of ways that you can obtain confidential consultation and referrals for counseling services, both within and external to Caltech. Explore the options below to find the one that's best for you.
Faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and students can seek confidential referral information through the Center for Inclusion & Diversity at (626) 395-3221.
Caltech's Counseling Center has resources for students, faculty, and staff.
Call the Counseling Center receptionist at (626) 395-8331 to schedule an appointment or set up an appointment in person in Room 40 in the Health and Counseling Center (1239 Arden Road, just south of campus). It is important that you let the receptionist know if you feel that you need to be seen immediately.
Caltech's Staff & Faculty Consultation Center (SFCC) provides fully-licensed, free, and absolutely confidential support 24 hours a day for postdocs, faculty, and staff.
Staff and faculty are encouraged to reach out to the SFCC with any issue. The SFCC is also available to refer, support, and advocate for anyone who is dealing with—or who has experienced—violence or harassment, destructive thoughts, or substance abuse. Confidential resources external to Caltech are also available.
Any consultation with an SFCC licensed therapist will never be shared with anyone, including any other Caltech employees, unless the person is an immediate risk to themselves or to others.
In Case of Emergency
If you or someone else needs after-hours emergency mental health, substance abuse, harassment, or violence support – or even if you aren't certain – page the on-call Caltech psychologist via Campus Security by calling (626) 395-4701.
You do not need to give your name or nature of the incident when you speak to the security dispatcher. Simply tell them that you want the on-call psychologist paged and then the on-call psychologist will return your call and provide you with emotional support and options regarding medical treatment or advocacy.
If you are in need of immediate support, you may also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline for advice or assistance: (800) 273-8255.
